Correlates of Delinquency.

After data is collected in several ways, one of the things it tells us is that gender, social class, race and age appear to be related to delinquency. Pick two of these correlates and explain their apparent relationship to delinquency.

The two correlates that have a relationship with delinquency are the social class and the age of the child. Social class has a relationship with delinquency for the fact that if a child is growing up in a poor enviornment they will be more likely to be prone to violence. And the age of the child has a relationship with delinquency because the age that a child may committ a crime can be accidental or the child may not be aware of what the cricumstances were or to the extent that a crime was committed.

Social class and race are the two correlates I have selected to expain their apparent relationship to delinquency. Social class plays a big role in delinquency, because Self-report studies show lower class individuals are put to the disadvantage. They don't have enough money to afford their neccessities and are willing to hussle for any money they can get, even if it is illegal. Race has a significant role in delinquency, because Official Statistics show there are far more Caucasian youth than minority youth. "There are approximately 40 million white and 9 million African American youth aged 5-17, a ratio of about 4.5-1." (pg. 44)Due to this disproportionate ratio, minority youth are the disadvantaged children who are more likely to have frequent confrontation with delinquency than Caucasian youth.

the two correlates that have a relationship with delinquency i believe are social class and gender.
Social class is connected to delinqueny of the child because if the family income may place the family and child into a enviornment according to their family's status.and if the family has low income they are bound to be placed in a violent community and this makes the child at risk to become a juvenile delinquent, because this is what that child is accustomed to.
gender is connected to child delinquency because socity fells that more young men are committing todays crime so the young men begin to live up to that standard and young women are getting more lentient sentences because socity fells that they have a better chance of getting their lives together. example the 14 year old girl from the age of innocence article handed out in class stated that this young girl blubgeoned her mother to death with a candle stick and served six months and went on to college where as the young men in the article are sreving 22 years to life for similar crimes.

The two correlates that appear to be related to delinquency are gender and social class. Males are more violent then females. Girls are arrested more for runaway then boys. Males are arrested more for drugs, fighting and more serious offenses. Another correlate is social class. Social Class determines a person income as well as educational level. Males are usually arrested because of drug possesion or attempt to sell and murder dealing with drugs etc. Males usually sell drugs because of low income and/or unemployment. The court think the male is poor and if he stays on the streets then he will continue to sell drugs.

The research done on social class and delinquency has many different correlations.1.poverty 2.culture conflict 3.unemployment, are just some of the factors that have correlations with delinquency. It is said that the poverty stricken families have no hope for their future. So in turn they seek to right the wrong they feel that was brought by injustice of society. To turn to a world of crime is the next step. High unemployment correlates with lack of money education and lack of opportunities that are given. All levels of social status commits crimes. The percentage of delinquency is higher in the minority group than the majority.Unemployment correlates with to much time on hands stressful situation in the family. Almost always leading to crime. Poverty correlates with feeding of one self or family, which can be stealing, committing theft or by any other means necessary.Social Class and delinquency has a great correlation on people in general. The Majority of people dont even know they are being affected by it.

Gender is patently related to delinquence, based on the ratio data of male and female. According to the text, approximately four to one serious violent crime and two to one property crime are to males and females. However, females crims increase over the years. Females crimes beginas "runaways", after numberous report, it becomes serious problem which is categorize as an official justice. It is certain that these girls become parasite for society. Self-report data concludes it all as to who commites what, when and the number of times which help us exaime which gender is more likely to commite what crime.

The two correlates that I believe have a relationship with delinquency are social class and race. I chose social class because I believe economic status determines social environment. I think that an individual with a high economic status has the means for a life with out struggles and the ability to provide the best for their families whereas an individual with a low economic status has to struggle to provide for their families often leading to violence and crime as the answer to their problems.
I chose racism because the lack of equality affects minorities in every aspect. As long as there are inequalities among each other, delinquency will persist for various reasons.

Out of the four correlates of delinquency, gender and age have the most impact. Both gender and age come together for common ground because they are somewhat alike. The ratio for delinquency is 4 to 1 comparing males to females. In contrast, both males and females are delinquents for separate reasons. Young girls are more prone to become runaway victims as young boys are to involve themselves in violent situations. There are also statistics that illustrate the differences between the genders and the crimes committed. The female delinquency statistic has increased by 12% while the male statistic for arrets have decreased by 22% In addition to gender, age has a separate role. Maturity is an important factor in the crimes committed. Statistics for this issue were that adolescents ages 17 and under make up 10% of the US population, but are accountable for about 27% of the arrests. While adults ages 50 and older make up 32% of the population and are only accountable for 10% of the arrests. Basically, the numbers are opposite from each other. It is stated that as people age, the purpose for crime becomes irrelevant to do so. In addition, people change. They mindset carried out during their younger years would develop into a maturing attitude once it is realized that certian actions should not be performed; especially if they are destructive towards society.
